Museum Frederic Marès

The Frederic Mares Museum, located in a part of the Palacio Real Mayor, houses a unique collection of sculpture from the pre-Roman period until the 19th century and another one of objects from everyday life from the 15th to the 19th centuries. The collection of this museum, donated to the city of Barcelona by the sculptor Frederic Marès Deulovol (1893-1991), is organized into two large areas that correspond to the general themes: the sculpture section and the Collector's Cabinet.

The sculpture section

The sculpture section is divided into seven spaces: Ancient world (5th century BC-IV AD); Romanesque (11th-13th centuries); Gothic (XIII-XIV centuries); Gothic (XV century); Renaissance (16th century); Baroque (17th-18th centuries) and Catalonia (19th century). The entire sculpture section is complemented with other collections: painting, goldsmithing, weaving and clothing, and furniture.

The Collector's Cabinet

In the Collector's Cabinet section, composed of 17 thematic rooms, thousands of objects of daily life are exposed, which are the testimony of the ways of life and customs of the past: fans, reliquaries, photographs, watches, toys, combs, pipes, automatons and many others.

The Patio or Vergel

The Frederic Marès Museum has a patio full of orange trees and surrounded by arcades. It is a particularly pleasant space, especially on good weather days. In this quiet courtyard of the Gothic quarter you will find a small bar / restaurant called Café d'Estiu (currently closed), so you can drink and eat something on your terrace. The fountain in the courtyard has a supplier where on Corpus Day the traditional "L'ou com balla (dancing egg)" festival is celebrated.

• Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Sundays and holidays: from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
• Monday: closed, except holidays.
• Closing days: January 1, May 1, June 24 and December 25.

Price

• General admission: € 4.20
• Reduced ticket: € 2.40.

Note: The Frederic Mares Museum is very large. If you have not had time to see everything, visitors with general admission can save it to continue the visit another day. The ticket will be valid in the following six months.

Visit the Frederic Marès Museum for free

This museum can be visited for free on the first Sunday of each month (from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.); Sundays after 3 p.m.; and on February 12 (Santa Eulàlia), Corpus Day (variable date), May 18 (International Museum Day) and September 24 (La Mercè). Children under 16 enter free every day.
