Ximo Tarín takes the baton in the classic Christmas concert of the Municipal Band of Barcelona, presenting The Nutcracker by Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky and other musical pieces. There is no Christmas without The Nutcracker, which illustrates Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale and connects the audience with the Christmas spirit. Russian Christmas Music, composed by Alfred Reed in 1844, explores and develops a theme known as the "Carol of the Little Russian Children". The well-known waltz No. 2 from Shostakovich's Suite for Variety Orchestra, included by Kubrick in the dreamlike and Christmas-like - albeit for adults - Eyes Wide Shut, is also recovered. The concert will also include the "Troika" from The Lieutenant Kijé -composed by Sergey Prokofiev-, "Lezginka" from the ballet Gayaneh by Aram Khachaturian and, to conclude the concert, the Catalan Christmas Carols by Salvador Brotons.
