The Doctor, the Musical, based on the bestseller by Noah Gordon, arrives in Barcelona starting October 29, where it can be seen at the emblematic Teatre Apolo in Barcelona. After its successful debut in Madrid in October 2018, where it exceeded 300,000 spectators in two consecutive seasons, and a national tour that toured more than 20 cities with 800 performances until February 2023, the musical resumes its journey under a new production by Dario Regattieri, CEO of beon. Entertainment, and the artistic direction of Ignasi Vidal.
The musical has crossed borders with an international tour in the Czech Republic and Germany, and will soon be presented in Switzerland and Austria, among other countries. Entertainment, renowned for its original titles, has once again chosen Barcelona, a city that has already successfully hosted other musicals such as La historia interminable and El tiempo entre costuras.
The music and lyrics of this show have been created by Iván Macías and Félix Amador. Noah Gordon, author of the book, endorsed the production stating that "the emotion of the novel has managed to transfer to the music so that I can hear my book. I am thrilled that readers can now experience the adventures of Rob J. Cole in a wonderful new way."
Cast of First Figures
This new production features a cast of leading musical theater figures. Alba Cuartero, known for her roles in El tiempo entre costuras, el musical and La historia interminable, el musical, will play Mary Cullen. Joseán Moreno, with extensive experience in productions such as El Médico, Grease and El hombre de la Mancha, will also be part of the cast.

El Médico, the musical, has been the most awarded show in recent years. It was voted "Best Musical" by Madrid es Teatro magazine during the 2018-19 season and received eleven BroadwayWorld Audience Awards, as well as five awards at the Musical Theatre Awards.
Synopsis
Little Rob J. Cole's life changes drastically when he is orphaned and discovers he possesses an unusual gift: he can predict death. Adopted as an apprentice by a barber surgeon, Rob travels around England learning about life and medicine. At the age of nineteen, a Jewish doctor tells him about Persia, where there is a medical school run by Avicenna, the greatest physician of the time.
Determined to become a doctor, Rob sets out on an epic journey to Persia. On his journey, he meets Mary, a Scottish woman who will mark his destiny. In Ispahan, he faces multiple challenges: posing as a Jew in order to study, his relationship with the Shah and his friendship with Avicenna. Despite adversity, including plagues, wars and a despot king, Rob remains steadfast in his vocation, finding in friendship and love the strength to survive.
