As part of the activities of the OFF Competition, the association of the Barcelona International Music Competition of Barcelona, places grand pianos in various public spaces in Barcelona and other cities in Spain. Pianos, personalized with messages like "Sit down, I'm in your hands", are available to anyone who wants to play them, even if they do not even know how to play the piano. Throughout the day, a facilitator accompanies the piano, whose function is to invite pedestrians to play this instrument. Sometimes they organize didactic sessions for children and performances developed by music students, amateurs, professionals and contestants of the Maria Canals.

With this project, the association wants to break the social and mental barriers that exist with music in general and the piano in particular. The grand piano symbolizes, more than any other instrument, the sacralization of a certain music considered cultured and difficult, as well as the inaccessibility to musical practice. To help eliminate that idea the pianos are placed directly on the pavement, without carpets or pallets.

Hello, I am an Italian guy 31 yo, self taught at piano.
I was emotionally moved by the covid event around the world and of course the musical barrier about the music in which I am directly involved with my experience.
I'd love to perform on a street piano one day from 2 to 7 October if possibile(days in which I'm in Barcelona), if someone knows a location please send me a mail, I'll appreciate that, congratulations for this event and good luck people.

Hello,

The pianos are installed on the street around the dates of the Maria Canals piano competition. This contest has ended a few days ago and no more pianos will be installed until the next contest, for which there are still no scheduled dates.

You can find one in the metro at intercanviador Diagonal in Diagonal metro station, It is a passage connecting lines L3 and L5, in the center of Barcelona.

Hello Dora,

This is a complex event that changes the program. At first they announced that there would be pianos until 20/06, but now it seems that the programmed pianos have changed. At the moment it does not seem that there are more pianos from May 5 although it is possible that they announce new days and new spaces. We will be attentive to update the dates.
