Bill Viola (New York, 1951), one of the pioneers of video art, is considered one of the most prestigious artists on the international scene. The main themes of his work are the nature of the human being and the transience of life, issues that Viola explores and expresses using masterfully sophisticated audiovisual technologies. Birth, death, pain, redemption or the passage of time, are reflected in their work to convey feelings and generate moods. It is really outstanding how he achieves that in his creations without words, the image feels, is heard and reveals deep emotions. The New York artist could be defined as an "the artist who awakens souls", because by means of the slowed and looped movement he is able to immerse the viewer in an inner world, to which also undoubtedly contributes the extraordinary intensity and beauty of his works .
From "The Reflecting Pool" to "Martyrs (Earth, Air, Fire, Water)"
"Bill Viola. Mirrors of the Unseen" is an exhibition in which we can see the artist's trajectory since his inception, with works such as The Reflecting Pool (1977-1979), to recent creations such as Martyrs (Earth, Air, Fire, Water ), an order made by the Saint Paul cathedral in London, which has been permanently exhibited since 2014. The interesting thing is also to observe how Viola's work has evolved in parallel with the development of video technology over the last forty years.
