Le Concert des Nations orchestra, conducted by Jordi Savall, will perform Beethoven's Symphonies 8 and 9 at the Gran Teatro del Liceo, together with La Capella Nacional de Catalunya, Sara Gouzy, Laila Salome Fischer, Mingjie Lei and Manuel Walser. The Beethoven cycle directed by Jordi Savall has already visited the most important concert halls in Europe with significant public and critical success. Performing the 9th at the Gran Teatre del Liceu completes the cycle of symphonies in Barcelona (the other 7 have been presented in concerts at the Barcelona Auditorium between 2019 and 2021).
It is in the eighth symphony that there is an enormous contrast between the events of the composer's life and the joy and vitality of the score. On the contrary, the ninth symphony marked a new category: the incorporation of the solo voices and the chorus in a symphony, something unusual until now.
In this concert the new professional choir of "La Capella Nacional de Catalunya" is presented for the first time in public, which began its journey precisely in the recording of Beethoven's 9th last September. A new professional choir created from the central nucleus of the chamber ensemble of La Capella Reial de Catalunya, where new young professional singers, specialized in historical music, are incorporated.
