The Mercer Hotel Barcelona, a renovated hotel by the architect Rafael Moneo located in a protected building listed as a historical monument and a work of art in itself, full of history, will host an exhibition of the sculptor Antoni Yranzo. The stone and wood sculptures by the artist will be installed in the lobby and in the restaurant Mercer in a unique exhibition open to the public. Lapis-Fusta reflects on sculpture and the materials of the works exhibited in relation with the building materials where there are shown , and the relationship of these materials with the history of Barcelona. Thus, Lapis-Fusta, the name of the exhibition, represents the temporary journey through two materials: Lapis-stone in Latin, the language of the founders of the city of Barcelona and fusta the Catalan word for wood. In the exhibition Lapis-Fusta you may also find other outstanding representations of the lifework of Yranzo: from some of its Otokos, portraying ironically modern society, some of its balances: delicate pieces dancing with the wind and mesmerizing the gaze. Yranzo does all his work in an original workshop of the year 1943 located in the Poblenou quarter and converted into an artist's studio by himself in 1990.
The exhibition is organized by the gallery MCAM.
Opening: 09/04/2014 at 19:00 h.
