The Els Joglars theater company, the oldest active with 60 years of experience, presents at the Teatre Apolo in Barcelona ¡Que sala Aristophanes!, a play that addresses the defense of freedom of expression within the framework of social networks and the political correctness. Contemporary dramaturgy combines music, dance, literature and the visual and claims the freedom of art at a time when it is being the victim of an overprotective society. From humor and satire, they show the perversity of the supposedly "good guys" who point out, betray and lynch those who disagree on social networks. The performances are unique and will take place at the Teatre Apolo in Barcelona.
Els Joglars returns to Barcelona with 5 unique performances at the Teatre Apolo.
Synopsis
The story centers on a professor of classics who is fired from the university and sent to a Center for Psychocultural Re-education due to the mental consequences that his dismissal has caused him. The main character identifies with Aristophanes, the famous Greek playwright considered the father of comedy. Through his imagination, the professor finds in Aristophanes a model of freedom as opposed to modern society, full of taboos and restrictions.
Why choose Aristophanes?
Aristophanes is chosen because he was engaged in Greek comedy, and was known for his common sense and his commitment to peace and the eradication of misery and devastation. In addition, he dared to touch on topics that were considered inappropriate in his society, promoting catharsis. Therefore, Aristophanes becomes an example of freedom in the face of the age of social networks, in which public targeting can have serious consequences for individual freedom.
