Manon Lescaut, the first great triumph of Puccini, is a lyrical drama in four acts inspired by the novel "L'historie du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut" (1731) by Abbot Prévost. It tells the story of the rise and fall of the courtesan Manon and was written with a rapturous music, following the principles of verism. The role of Des Grieux will be interpreted by three great tenors, the American Gregory Kunde, the Spanish Jorge de León and the Puerto Rican Rafael Davila. They are joined by two sopranos of international fame for the main role, the Ukrainian Ludmyla Monastyrska and the Italian Maria Pia Piscitelli.
The action of this version of the opera Manon Lescaut (co-production between the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Palau de les Arts in Valencia and the Teatro San Carlo in Naples) places us in the context of the immigration of the early twentieth century with the memory of Ellis Island as background.
