An impressive exhibition that aims to raise awareness in society of the danger posed to the oceans and seas of plastic waste. The amount of plastic that harbor marine waters is so important that there is not a single square kilometer of seawater that is free of plastic particles. This situation seriously threatens aquatic ecosystems and marine species. The figures say it all: every year between 8 and 12 million tons of garbage from poorly managed waste arrive to the sea from the five continents. The problem, moreover, is that not everything is visible, because 15% of the plastic moves along the surface of the sea, another 15% reaches the coasts and the rest, 70%, sinks into the seabed.
Take action
In "Seas of plastic. From problem to solution" you can see, as an example of the ecological catastrophe, an installation with floating plastic remains from several oceans. In another section, the background of the problem is presented, and the serious impact it generates on the environment, but also on society and the economy, is analyzed. And as the title indicates, the exhibition also proposes solutions to this crisis to encourage citizens to take action and stop plastic pollution. The exhibition created by the Zurich Design Museum in association with the Droso Foundation, has traveled more than 20 cities in Europe and Asia generating great impact. In Barcelona, it has been organized by the We Are Water Foundation and curated by Roman Aebersold, head of cooperation at the Zurich Design Museum.
