This exhibition brings together works by Antoni Tàpies from the Fundació, the artist's family, museum loans and private collections. One of the criteria followed for the selection has been visibility: preference has been given to works that have not been exhibited for a long time or that are unknown to the public because they are part of private collections.
Tàpies at 30 is framed in the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the Foundation, and focuses on the period when Tàpies was in his thirties, that is, between 1953 and 1963. In that period, Tàpies reached his artistic maturity with the creation of the so-called material paintings, which were characterized by the density of the textures and by the use of a range of colors in which gray, ocher and earthy tones predominated. These paintings enabled Tàpies to occupy a prominent place in both Spanish and international avant-garde circles.
The exhibition is accompanied by documentation to contextualize the evolution of Antoni Tàpies' work in a period in which the foundations of a critical culture were laid and committed to the political movement opposed to the Franco regime.
To access this exhibition and others from the Antoni Tàpies Foundation, you have to buy the general ticket or the Articket, which will allow you to visit other important museums in Barcelona.
