West Side Story is one of the most important musicals of all time. From the beginning to the end, this masterpiece tells us one of the most exciting, heartbreaking and beautiful stories of musical theater.
The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim is recognized worldwide as one of the best in the history of musicals, and the text by Arthur Laurens is still as moving and current as the day it premiered. The original choreographies of Jerome Robbins still occupy a place of honor in the history of contemporary dance.
A love story
In West Side Story, Arthur Laurens adapts the Romeo and Juliet of Shakespeare to the city of New York. Two young lovers are caught by the rivalry, not of the Montagues and the Capulets, but of two street gangs, the American Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. This musical explains the couple's struggle to survive in an environment of hatred, violence and prejudice. Produced by SOM Produce, producer of Billy Elliot, Priscilla or Cabaret, and coinciding with the centenary of the birth of Leonard Bernstein, has premiered for the first time in Spain, the original full version with which this mythical musical debuted at the Winter Garden Theater (Broadway, 1957).
