The exhibition "Animals and Pharaohs" shows the role and importance of animals in the Pharaonic civilization. The animal figure became the multiple element of a coded language, written or represented, and was the basis of Egyptian religious thought, an infinite source of inspiration and origin of an artistic production of exceptional richness and variety. This exhibition offers visitors an aesthetic and educational approach. The exhibition is divided into nine thematic sections with a logical evolution: from the simple material perception of real creatures in their natural environment to the deeper symbolism of the religious, funerary and political spheres. Stelae and sculptures, watercolors and wall paintings, vases and jars, boxes and amulets, sarcophagi and mummies, to the glorification of the animal statues and sphinxes: more than four hundred pieces that show the importance of animals in the culture of ancient Egypt.
This exhibition has been organized by the Musée du Louvre and "la Caixa".
