Two new photography exhibitions at the KbR with the work of Anastasia Samoylova, who points her camera at the advertising of cities as a way of showing how similar they all are; and the work of Ilse Bing, whose work cannot be ascribed to any specific photographic current, although it draws from several of them, including Das Neue Sehen, the Bauhaus and Surrealism.
Ansatasya Samoylova - Cities image
The "Image cities" project by the artist Anastasia Samoylova consists of photographing images of fashion, beauty, bank and real estate advertising on facades, buses and other urban advertising media in various cities, creating collages in which the photographs they overlap each other and hardly any human beings appear . The author defends her work as artisan and criticizes that cities are becoming more and more alike in their generic urban landscape, of anonymous architecture made of steel and glass, losing its individuality and becoming a single propaganda image. Samoylova analyzes the role that photography plays in creating this ideological gap between the presumed urban identity and the reality that they show. The project has been carried out in various cities thanks to the KBr Photo Award.
Ilse Bing
Ilse Bing is a photographer whose work cannot be ascribed to any specific photographic current, although it draws on several of them, including Das Neue Sehen, the Bauhaus and surrealism. Her work is influenced by the cities where she lived and experienced her condition as an exile, such as Frankfurt, Paris and New York. Bing's position escapes any strict norm or visual orthodoxy and combines modernity and formal innovation with a humanist spirit and social conscience. The exhibition also shows Bing's interest in movement, which takes the form of his work on the ballet L'Errante, by choreographer George Balanchine, for the company Les Ballets.
