This exhibition brings together about 300 works of more than 100 authors, made between the middle of the nineteenth century and our days. The visitor can see paintings, photographs, drawings, prints, films and texts. The central theme of the exhibition is the collective emotions and political events that generate insubordination, upheavals, political turmoil, social movements and revolutions. Insurrections was organized by the Jeu de Paume de Paris, in collaboration with the National Museum of Art of Catalonia for the presentation in Barcelona, and with the participation of MUNTREF (Museum of the National University of Tres de Febrero, Buenos Aires), MUAC (University Museum of Contemporary Art), UNAM (Mexico), and the UQAM (Université du Québec à Montréal).
The exhibition of Barcelona has incorporated a set of works of the MNAC to provide a specific vision of our reality both by the artists represented (from the illustrator Lluís Pellicer to the posterists of the Civil War) and by the topics discussed.
The exhibition is based on the historical and theoretical work carried out by the philosopher and art historian Georges Didi-Huberman, who is the curator of this exhibition.
