José Guerrero, The Presence of Black (1950-1966)

Organized by the Centro José Guerrero of Granada celebrating the centenary of the birth of José Guerrero (Granada, 1914-Barcelona, 1991), this exhibition is the first monographical exhibiton of the American painter’s phase, the most important of his career. The exhibition begins with his first incursions into abstraction through engravings and the experimental "portable frescoes" in the early 50s (revealing a painter very interested in the possibilities of integrating painting into architecture); and continues with his full integration into American abstract expressionism, and ends when he rediscovers his spanish memory and returns to his home country in 1965.
