This year Christmas comes to Sant Jaume square in a different way. First of all, there will not be a nativity scene in the square but a big star of which we will now explain more details, and secondly, the traditional nativity scene that was usually installed in the Frederic Marès Museum, moves to the courtyard of Carriages of the Barcelona City Hall.
The star this year will be...
...a 20-pointed star, each of which will be 4 meters long. This impressive work of 2.5 tons, made of iron, methacrylate and LED lights inside, will illuminate the facade of the City Hall and the Generalitat. The illumination will also extend to the plant elements on the balconies of both buildings.
This large Christmas star of 9 meters and a width of 10.6 meters, baptized with the name of Origin and symbol of harmony, is a creation of the architect and artist Xevi Bayona and the digital creator Àlex Posada. The geometric figure is intended to symbolize the big ban, the moment when the universe transformed darkness into light and energy.
An immersive show with QR
At dusk, an immersive audiovisual show will begin, supported by an original soundtrack created for the occasion. In order to listen to it, a QR code must be used to open an app, which will allow you to connect your cell phone to the live sound of the square. If you want to enjoy the experience with the highest quality, it is recommended to use headphones.
Which days and at what time will the star be illuminated?
This great Christmas star will be on display from November 29 to January 5. The show, which lasts 5 five minutes, can be followed from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm every 30 minutes.
