An exhibition designed to give visibility from a new point of view to the current situation of contemporary African design. The exhibition consists of works by over 120 artists and designers and relates the design to the economic and political changes on the continent. Making Africa presents a large number of works ranging from eyewear sculptures by Kenyan artist Cyrus Kabiru to the architecture by Francis Kéré, David Adjaye and Kunle Adeyemi. All the works show that the design in Africa is understood in a very different way than in our societies, producing an innovative approach in design.
Tracing the origin of the new situation, we find it in the 1960 photographers like Seydou Keita and Malick Sidibe or the South African magazine "Drum", which showed a continent beyond the wars and major disasters. In the exhibition Making Africa the historical documents are paired with contemporary works, showing how the young generations sometimes took them as a reverance creating a positive link with that bygone era.
