The exhibition offers us a look at some of the most famous series of the Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto and invites us to know his current work. This multidisciplinary artist based in New York from 70's, works with the sculpture, the architecture, the installation and the photography, a field in which he is considered one of the most important authors of the international scene.
The exhibition presents 39 large-scale works of the last forty years of the artist's work and it is organized into five sections representing the five major series of Sugimoto:
- Seascapes (1980- )
- Portraits (1994-1999)
- Theaters (1976- )
- Dioramas (1976-2012)
- Lightning Fields (2006-)
His works are characterized by great visual beauty and high technical virtuosity, especially considering that the Japanese photographer rejects the digital technology and uses traditional methods. Overall, we can say that the work of Hiroshi Sugimoto is a profound reflection on the nature of perception, illusion, representation, life and death.
Free admission on Mondays from 14:00h to 20:00h.
