Néstor Garcia Canclini, National Prize in History, Philosophy and Social Sciences awarded by the Government of Mexico in 2014, is a renowned thinker, anthropologist, cultural and specialist critical discourses on cultural consumerism, globalization and multiculturalism in Latin America. Also Néstor Garcia Canclini is considered the creator of the concept "cultural hybridization". Canclini is also the director of the Culture Editorial Gedisa series and currently directs the Program of Urban Culture Studies at the Autonomous Metropolitan University of Mexico.
In his latest book "The world as a strange place," Canclini returns to the fray with a new reflection on culture and society. In this case it focuses on the role of reading and texts in the new digital age; relates the concept of "alien" with social networking; reflects on the private sphere and its public dimension because of new technologies and ends in dialogue with artists, writers and researchers on how knowledge in the current era is generated. In his May visit to Spain he will discuss the current cultural reality with young and with media and the area of culture proffesionals.
