The Gran Teatre del Liceu hosts the first performance in Barcelona of the famous musical My Fair Lady, by Frederik Loewe, based on the comedy Pygmalion (1913), by George Bernaw Shaw. Genre specialist Alfonso Casado Blat will conduct the Symphony Orchestra and Choir of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in a semi-staged concert version created by British stage director Guy Unsworth.
This comedy tells the story of "cockney" florist Eliza Doolittle, who begins to take lessons from the phonetician Professor Henry Higgins, who is obsessed with the dream of becoming an elegant lady of London high society.
The cast includes the voices of Ellie Laugharne (Eliza Doolittle), Steven Pacey (Professor Higgins), Richard Suart (Colonel Pickering), Peter Polycarpou (Alfred P. Doolittle), Nadim Naaman (Freddy Eynsford Hill) and Susie Blake (Mrs Higgins). / Mrs Pearce / Cockney Woman), the same cast that, a few days earlier, presented the play at the Grange Festival in London.
