The Influencers is a festival of rebellious projects that combines art, politics, technology and new popular electronic cultures. This edition, the 14th, in which women take center stage, will revolve around the notion of the new digital dark age, approaching the symbolic, political and material contradictions of what we summarily call "internet" and that is much more what it seems like. As featured activities: a cryptorave (you'll have to become a computer miner to get the ticket and know where it takes place), a workshop on decentralized web publishing methods, and the Barcelona Internet Tour, a kind of tourist tour in non tourist places in key of performance and profane lighting.
Sixth edition of the festival specialized in Asian cinema organized by Casa Asia. This year, more than one hundred feature films will be screened at three main venues: Cinemes Girona, CaixaForum and Filmoteca de Catalunya. The AFFBCN is structured in six sections: the Official, Panorama, Netpac (the three to contest), Discoveries, Special, and "Retrospective" dedicated this year to the Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda. In this year's edition we can see films from Japan, Iran, China, Korea and India, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and, for the first time in history, from Macao. The festival is extended, as in other editions, to geographical areas outside of Asia and we will have the opportunity to enjoy films from Australia and New Zealand.
The XXIV Salón del Manga de Barcelona of FICOMIC will be held at the Fira Barcelona Montjuïc site and will have, in this edition of 2018, 75,000 square meters. In addition to the exhibitors that show their products or services in the stands of Fira Barcelona, in the Salón del Manga there are many activities organized: exhibitions, conferences, signatures of outstanding manga authors and workshops. This year they offer us more participatory activities than ever to get more interaction from the attendees; the idea is that the event is something more than the great festival of Japanese culture, but without losing focus on the country of the rising sun, because there will be more manga and Japanese culture than in previous editions.
The International Film Festival of the Environment (FICMA) was born with the intention of being a pioneer festival and a global reference for environmental film. And they have achieved it, there are already 25 editions (a quarter of a century!) through which thousands of films and documentaries from many countries have passed. FICMA focuses on this year's edition on works that raise public awareness of current environmental problems such as the impact that plastic is having on our oceans, climate change, deforestation, illegal hunting of animals, human rights, renewable energies and food. The official section features the documentaries "The Uncertainly has settled" by Marinjn Poels, a critical and analytical vision on the fight against climate change, "Shaman" by David Gómez, on climate change in Mongolia, "When the storm fades" of Sean Devlin, a docu-drama-comedy starring a real Filipino family struggling to recover from Typhoon Haiyan, and Lindsey Grayzel's "The reluctant radical", which reflects the tireless work of activist Ken Ward against climate change.
Photogenic Festival is a photography festival which organizes several simultaneous exhibitions of new talents in unconventional spaces. They also develop a program of activities (conferences and workshops, among others) whose objective is to bring the experiences of the consolidated professionals of the sector to the amateurs of photography. These activities are concentrated in the All Day Photogenic that take place on November 17 at the Antiga Fábrica Estrella Damm from 11 a.m. until 9 a.m. On this day there will be workshops on architecture photography, portrait photography or cyanotype (an old monochrome photographic method in Prussian blue), a virtual reality demo by the Visyon company, and a projection and talk with the Arxiu Fotogràfic de Barcelona, among other activities.
